Keeping up the pace!

Desperate to continue their good run of form despite the disappointing draw the previous week Marlborough welcomed Bristol based club Robinsons for what was undoubtedly going to be a tough grind of a game.
As with the previous few weeks Marlborough set out to start the game in a positive, dominant manner which was instigated by excellent forward rotation and movement to keep Robinsons guessing. The confusion created allowed Marlborough to make several highly threatening breaks at great speed down both flanks- a goal must me imminent? The question was shortly answered when Marlborough converted their first short corner. Captain Rich Holman’s patented ‘slider’ left the Robinsons goalkeeper wrong footed and with no chance of stopping his shot as it arrowed in to the corner.
With their confidence high Marlborough pressed on again and were soon rewarded with a second goal following more smart build up play down the left before a quick change to the right allowed Holman to smash in a cross which was tenaciously pounced upon my rising star Will Radnedge. A true striker’s goal if ever there was one! With the half coming to a close Marlborough knew that this could be the making of the game and scored again after more fantastic play by Radnedge who supplied a pinpoint pass to the ‘p’ sport which was deflected in by ever green striker Steve Way.
The second half began with Robinsons desperate to make some impact on the game as they pressed higher and threw more men at chasing the ball. Their tactics seemed to be working for a limited time but soon Marlborough adjusted and continued their dominant display of possession and composure on the ball. The game once more was being played as Marlborough would have liked it, their defense was resolute and their attacking swift. Marlborough’s forward line would simply not allow the opposition defense or midfield anytime on the ball- a truly selfless display of athleticism and commitment.
Marlborough furthered the scoring when Anil Sud tapped in from close range following some defensive confusion and the score was increased again when Sud scored a couple of minutes from the end. Final result was a highly convincing and thoroughly deserved 5-0 victory.
One of the most notable facts from the match was that Marlborough goalkeeper Brian Marnane had no saves to make for the entire match!
The Marlborough News Online Man of the Match was Duncan Lorrain for an unbelievably tireless performance up front, truly inspirational in leading the forward line and galvanising the rest of the team.
