Stern test away at Buccs

Marlborough Vs Bath Buccs B Game drawn 2-2
After a much needed win the previous week against Westbury Marlborough travelled to Bath to face Bath Buccs B whom had been scoring for fun with numerous high scoring wins.
It was clear from the outset of the game that both sides would be playing hockey in the right way and whoever took their chances would end up the victor. Marlborough started the game positively attacking down both flanks with both pace and purpose. Once more Marlborough used their defensive press to excellent effect which stifled Buccs as they tried to manoeuvre the ball out from their defence.
Both sides had some quick attacking moves that almost came to goals, Marlborough themselves came very close to opening the scoring but were unable to put the finishing touches on a move barely inches from the Buccs goal. The game looked set to reach half time at 0-0 until Marlborough were awarded a short corner and a low corner strike from Anil Sud gave the visitors the lead.
Buccs started the second half pressing extremely high with an extra forward deployed and a more advanced defensive line. Once more the game began to ebb and flow between the two sides. Good attacking moves were made by both sides but again both defences held strong at the final moments, Marlborough’s Tom Palmer particularly notable for solid tackling in some sticky situations.
Unfortunately Marlborough’s defence was breached after a Buccs attack down the right gave time for a low strike which evaded the Marlborough defensive sticks and gave goalkeeper Brian Marnane no time to react. 1-1 and in the ascendancy Buccs looked to press home their momentum and soon after took a 2-1 lead after a low drag flick from a short corner.
Rattled in to a response Marlborough then reasserted themselves on the game and were highly unlucky for a goal to be ruled out following a bizarre set of events during a short corner. This did not deter them and they soon attacked with numbers down both sides of the pitch but seemed to be running out of time…
With 10 seconds remaining Marlborough were awarded a short corner, it was now or never! The Buccs defence rushed out to stop Sud’s strike attempt but the subsequent deflection flew in to the roof of the net giving Marlborough a well deserved 2-2 draw. After such bad luck in the closing moments of many recent games a jubilant Marlborough dressing room reflected on what had been a fair, well fought and enjoyable game.
