Final game of 2014!

Marlborough Vs Bath Buccs C Marlborough lose 1-0
In desperate need of a win to keep within striking distance of the top places Marlborough travelled to Bath to take on a surging Buccs C team whom had put together some good results in recent weeks.
The game began with Marlborough completely dominant, penning their opponents in their own half. Buccs tried to pass the ball around the defensive line but mistraps and errant passes only heaped the pressure on even more. Marlborough had several excellent opportunities to open the scoring but just could not find the back of the net, would this be the running theme for the game?
The rest of the first half played out with Marlborough all over the opposition which limited Buccs to breakaway moves as Marlborough pressed further and further up the pitch.
The second half began with both sides trying to assert themselves knowing that after a first half like that all was to play for. To their credit Buccs seemed to have changed their game plan somewhat and looked to pass the ball in and out of the Marlborough press by choice which led to them being able to move easier out of defence.
The game ebbed and flowed with neither side managing to create that one clear cut chance to open the scoring. Some 15 minutes were left in the game when the deadlock was finally broken. A bizarre sequence of events occurred when a Buccs midfielder barrelled his way through several tackles before being slotting home from all of a foot. Marlborough were left stunned as there had been several highly questionable tackles made by Buccs in the run up…
With time running out and desperation starting to kick in Marlborough hurled everything they had forward. Several formation changes ensued and yet they were still unable to break Buccs resolve, the Buccs goalkeeper making some excellent saves in the process.
The game finished at 1-0, a devastating loss for Marlborough whom had started the game so brightly. Captain Rich Holman gave a rousing speech after the game saying how proud he was of the effort shown and how if things continue on that way the results will come.
The Marlborough News Online Man of the Match was defender Will Langton who showed a calm, collected head on young shoulders. One to watch for the future!
