Hawkeye needed!

Marlborough vs Firebrands Marlborough lose 2-1
After a brilliant result the previous week Marlborough made the trip to Firebrands for a late 3pm pushback in the cold, rain and sleet. A potential banana skin if ever there was one. With playing two games in the same weekend Marlborough knew that they simply could not afford any slip ups to keep alive any slim hopes of promotion.
Marlborough started the game positively, penning Firebrands in their own 25 and turning the ball over on a regular basis. Soon the gaps started appearing and Marlborough looked to exploit these with quick, decisive ball movement. Their efforts were rewarded when striker Hamish Fyfe swept in from close range after a series of confusing moment in the ‘D’.
The second half began with Firebrands being more assertive following some tactical changes. They exploited space in Marlborough’s press to good effect and had several near misses of their own before drawing level. Marlborough continued to sink further with their play and it was little surprise when Brands took the lead with only a few minutes left to go.
Marlborough were unable to break their opponents down until Keir Headley’s reverse shot founds its way in to the goal. A jubilant Marlborough were cut down in celebration when the goal was disallowed- reason given that the ball was struck outside the ‘d’ when it had clearly been at least 2 feet inside the area. The game ended with Marlborough disappointed, bewildered and incensed.
The Marlborough News Online man of the match was captain Rich Holman.
