End of the 2014/15 season.

Marlborough Vs Chippenham Marlborough lose 5-2
IN the final game of the 2014/15 season Marlborough travelled to Chippenham in an odd game for both sides. Marlborough were too far back to force their way in to the promotion places and Chippenham would have to better Yeovil’s result by at least 10 goals to sneak in to second place. Well anything is possible!
Marlborough started the game brightly and found themselves breaking through the Cheltenham midfield at will, soon creating opportunities down both flanks. Despite their need to play the match of their lives Chippenham seemed lethargic and lacklustre in their approach which was highlighted when they were frequently robbed of possession.
Marlborough opened the scoring through Ed Watson’s reverse stick deflection following Marlborough skipper Rich Holman’s pinpoint pass from a short corner routine. Marlborough continued to dominate the game but could not find a second goal to add to the home sides misery. With the last play of the first half Chippenham levelled the scoring after a messy short corner. The less said about it the better.
Marlborough again dominated the start of the second half and following a penalty flick from Anil Sud regained their advantage. The game then switched completely on its head as Chippenham through all their players forward in a desperate attempt to win the game and have any chance of promotion.
They equalised following a sloppy short corner conceded by Marlborough which wasn’t cleared, took the lead with a close tap in, furthered their lead with yet another close tap in and finally rounded off an insane 15 minute spell with yet another tap in. Combined distance for the goals must have measured at less than two metres!
Chippenham deservedly won the game following Marlborough’s capitulation in the second half. A rather disappointing end to what has been a season full of highs and lows!
Chippenham missed out on promotion as Yeovil thrashed Robinsons 12-0 in their game.
The Marlborough News Online man of the match was Captain Rich Holman who was at the hub of everything good that Marlborough produced. Holman also laid out his plans for the following season and how he believes that this team is capable of getting out of the league.
A big thanks goes to player coach Matt Way, who is currently injured, for his efforts this year and as always to captain Rich Holman for his organisation, commitment and continued enthusiasm!
