In five years time......it will be 2020?

Marlborough Vs Wootton Bassett Marlborough win 4-1
After a nervy 1-0 win the previous week against Firebrands Marlborough welcomed newly promoted Wootton Bassett for what was sure to be a feisty and interesting game.
The first order of the day was for the team to congratulate player/ coach Matt Way and his wife Helen on the birth of their daughter the previous Sunday. Timing for availability couldn’t really have been any better?!
The game started at quite a pace with both sides eager to press high and soon gaps were opening up in various parts of the pitch. Barely five minutes had passed when Marlborough took the lead through player/coach and new father Matt Way. A long ball lumped up to the striker was met with an assured touch, turn and elimination which was followed up by a well struck shot in to the bottom right hand corner. The emotion was clear to see after a tiring first week with his new responsibility!
Sadly for the home side their jubilation was not long lived and Bassett pounced to equalise following a quick break of their own. Game on!
After such a thunderous start to the game the pace slowed somewhat until Marlborough retook the lead following an incisive move which was finished off by left side midfielder Ed Watson. The finish itself was a thing of beauty with Watson cleverly deceiving both the Bassett keeper and several of his own team mates to sweep home from an acute angle.
The second half began with Bassett pressing higher and to their credit there were patches of play where Marlborough were seemingly feeling the pressure but sustaining such a high press under such intensity could not last.
Marlborough soon had their third goal of the day when Keir Aymes-Headley’s deft reverse stick deflection flew in to the roof of the net. The fourth was added by young striker Rhys Davies when his strike, again on the reverse, found the corner of the net. Perfect placement!
The tackles flew in from all angles, legal or otherwise, which broke the game down somewhat and Marlborough held strong for a deserved 4-1 win.
The Marlborough News Online Man of the Match for his efforts both on and off the pitch (particular the last week!!!) was Matt way!
