Another win another physical battle!

After a hard fought win last week, it was important to continue the momentum... up next Robbies! A well drilled team were physical in the tackle and quick on the counter - a tough game ahead indeed! It was critical for Marlborough to start on top and they did, going 1 up through Matt Way who smashed the ball into the roof of the net after good link up play with Will Hughes. Robbies, to their credit, responded quickly after being awarded a Penalty flick. Right decision? I don't think so!! The decision was made after WIll Langton decided to headbutt the ball that was missing the goal. Will had to come off after the logo of the ball started to appear on his face. The decision of a penalty flick still stood and it was put away well. 1-1. Robbies then went ahead with a break-away goal as Marlborough were still trying to adjust to the loss of Langton. That goal spurred Marlborough on and they then started to dominate the game and were rewarded with a little bit of luck as Will Hughes drove into the 'D' and hit a shot across goal for it to be deflected in. 2-2. With Marlborough on top, they quickly scored again, after quick thinking from skipper Rich Holman. He found Rhys Davies and unleashed an unstoppable reverse stick shot past the keeper. 3-2. And that's how it remained through to half time. The second half was end to end, with the game stretching a little, as neither side took control. Keeper Brian Marnane was solid at the back with Euan Reed and Charlie Ponder making sure there was no way through. Although Marlborough lost Will Radnedge with a blow to the head, they stretched their lead to 4-2 with a well worked short corner routine as the ball was slipped to John Bromley who swept the ball home. Marlborough controlled the game to the end and should have scored a few more, but it wasn't to be. In fact, it was Robbies who scored right at the death, keeping it a little interesting. In all fairness the score line flattered the home side and Marlborough fully deserved the win.
