Men’s 1’s take top spot with hard fought win

The men’s 1’s continted their impressive start to the season with a superb performance against Bath buccs B. Both teams were undefeated, so marlborough knew it would a close contest. Marlborough were without player coach matt way with his second child on the way, captain Anil Sud who picked up an injury at training, Ollie Davies who went to an open university day and Charlie Hawley, who went to watch storm Brian in Ireland. so, they were understrength, but full of confidence. Within the first minute that confidence was shown as James Richardson, making his debut at centre half played a nice one two with Alex renwick and slotted the ball passed the advancing keeper, 1 minute gone, 1-0 the borough. The game settled down a bit, with Marlborough pressing well and buccs trying to break down a well organised unit. Borough continued to press forward and won a free hit on the half way line, a quick hit was taken by Holman, who found Osborne in acres of space on the left, he drove hard and fired the ball into the ‘d’ to find Will Hughes racing in to deflect the ball home, 2-0, simple goal well executed. Bath pressed forward before half time, but Aaron Holloway was in fine form and nothing was getting passed him this game! Half time arrived and Marlborough were in control! 2-0.

Half time chat was simple, listen to stand in captain berry and it’ll all be fine.... instead everyone had their say, but we were all thinking the same; fight hard, hit them on the break and squeeze the life out of them! And that is exactly what Marlborough did, bath found it very hard to break through the Marlborough defence and with that, Marlborough hit buccs on the break, the ball finding it’s way to Osborne who took a fine shot at the acute angle, the ball fell to Hughes, who tapped the ball into an empty net, 3-0, game set and match..... you would think, Marlborough began to tire and gave the ball away a lot in the last 10 minutes, losing James Richardson to a yellow card didn’t help matters, but Marlborough again defended well and truly deserved the win!

Man of the match was Rich holman for his awesomeness (guess who wrote this report)
DOD went to James Richardson for spending most of the Game in a chair on the side of the pitch getting angry ?

A couple of Special mentions has to go to Aaron Holloway for some outrageous saves during the game and also stand in skipper Berry who did a great job of organising and encouraging the team. Final mention goes to the whole team, who really put in a shift!
