Season commences with a challenging game away vs Swansea 1s

Match report by John Berry.

Swansea City amalgamated with the university over the summer, and came out with a bang.
Marlborough had pipped them at the end of last season finishing highest of the teams remaining in the league, but with a huge new influx of players into the Swansea side, it was going to be a hell of a game to kick off the 18/19 league season.
Marlborough were without a few key players, and pulled on two new talented youngsters to the side in the form of Dan Dix and Toby Salisbury, to complete their travelling side.
The game started in the unusually sunny climes of the Swansea bay heat, which brought out the crowds...
A full squad of 16 for Swansea, enabled them to maintain good rotation throughout the game.
Marlborough started a tad slow, conceding early on, but were soon level after an excellent attacking move saw the ball pass the Swansea keeper but get stopped illegally on the line by a defender. A.Sud stepped up, and calmly despatched the ball into the bottom corner from the penalty spot.
Soon after, a beautifully flowing move left Matthew 'failed self aerial' Osborne to clip it into the back of the goal for Marlborough's second, and to take the lead in the first half.
The second half started similarly to the first, however instead of conceding one goal, we decided to open the proverbial flood gates as a team with Swansea slipping in a hat-trick of goals in short succession.
4-2, became 4-3, with a straight strike from a short corner, again Anil rifled the ball past the Swansea keeper who could only pirouetting on the spot to see the ball slam into the corner of the back board.
A glimmer of clawing the game back into Marlborough's hands was soon snuffed out by a well drilled, fit, and obviously ambitious Swansea side.
At 7-3, it was a matter of pride.
Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Mark Kinder sliding in at the back post to lift the ball into the net from a well worked short corner, making the final score 7-4.
A tasty affair with 6 cards in total, with 3 of them being picked up by each side.
Highly likely to be one of Marlborough's toughest games this season, not only Swansea's strength, but also Marlborough's first game as a quite different side to last year with a big turn-over of players.
The home fixture will be one to look forward to!
MoM: Anil Sud.
DoD: Aaron 'angry man' Holloway.
