Marlborough 1s vs Clifton Robinsons 3s
By John Berry
Chat chat chat... pipe down.
With a continued run of form, Marlborough came into a game they lost on the away leg, keen to make amends. Marlborough were sitting comfortably in the upper portion of mid-table, whilst Clifton Robinsons came into the game, knowing they needed a win to halt their current demise, squandering at the bottom of the table.
Marlborough were ever the stronger in the first half, showing their quality across the park., despite a drought of players meaning they played the majority of the game with on 11 players The pressure told with Hamish Fyfe scoring a well deserved and worked goal.
Marlborough went into the half 1-0 up unlucky not to be a good number further ahead.
The second half started strongly again, with Matt Osborne sweetly putting the home side 2-0 to the good. As with many a Marlborough game, where they lead by a couple of goals, the apathy commenced. This was compounded by a succession of cards, leaving the home team exposed at the back. Clifton Robinsons pounced, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
A continuous stream of abuse, snide comments, and general bad sportsmanship continued unabated from the away team, putting the Marlborough team out of sorts further.
However, with a lightening bolt pass from Richard Holman on the diagonal to the top of the D, John Berry, thudded the ball into the bottom corner, the game turned once more in Marlborough’s favour. 3-1.
Despite sitting back once more, and the away team snatching 1 more goal, Marlborough held on strongly for a well deserved victory, and another step closer to their target of positive goal difference by the end of the season.
MOM: Jonesy, for putting the worst offender of the opposition in his place on many an occasion.
DOD: Matt Osbourn for “taking a rest” with 3 cards.
