Back to winning ways

Marlborough A register a vital 3 points away at Taunton
It turns out Taunton is quite a long way away. Thankfully the whole team arrived safely and in good time for a fairly profession warm up as the home side awaited a crucial piece of goalie kit. Right from the off Marlborough were able to attack with numbers bursting through from midfield, but despite many chances, that final touch in front of goal proved elusive. Taunton provided a threat going forward, but the central defence partnership of Ryan Noble and Charlie Ponder were able to step in front and neutralise with aplomb. Half time came with the score still goalless - the message: keep creating the chances and stay patient. And patience was rewarded when a smart short corner routine saw Will Langton fire home from the flick spot. With nerves settled, the next ten minutes saw some fantastic passing and movement as Marlborough threatened to run away with the game. The score was quickly doubled after a slick move left Will Hughes a chance to strike, slamming the ball into the net just inside the near post: a superb finish. Despite continued pressure, Marlborough failed to add to the lead as tired legs fell too easily into taking the ball into contact, with the game becoming a little frenetic. Matters were not helped when the captain contrived to convert a bouncing ball barely four metres out from the goal over the crossbar and into the car park. More goals certainly could have been scored, but a 2-0 victory away from home was a very welcome result and puts us right back in the mix at the bottom of a tight table.
Marlborough News Online Man of the Match for a masterful display in midfield was Will Hodge.
