Marl A - North Wilts
By Ryan Noble
Best Win Since Christmas
Struggling to find a team all week it was 5 minutes before departure when Alfie marley arrived to complete our glorious 11. We also welcomed Alex Davies back for a triumphant return with Christ Newton, Nick Gosling and James Lane coming up from the 3rds to help us out leaving the 3's in a somewhat precarious position of possibly not being able to field a team Sunday (snowed off phew!)- very gratefull to the 3's for always helping out the 2's mixed commitment problems.
Things started off a little cautious with us knowing that our team was a little last minute botch job affair; this however seemed to be to our advantage as keeping possession was a new skill that the 2's seemed to have acquired with everyone on the pitch seemingly playing a mature not to adventurous style of play. This paid off when C.Newton found himself just outside the D and able to wangle a ball in to your Author who scored a dashing bobbling flick/push type of goal from just inside the D (first of the season/2 seasons). N.Wilts then adopted a half court press and generally played awfully for the 1st half allowing Marlborough to score another goal with another link up between Noble and Newton- Chris scoring a similar undramatic but effective goal. Half time occurred and someone had words up the N.Wilts end and they decided to play some hockey in the second half. We then spent much of the second half defending; with notable performances from our keeper (who liked to use his head to save goals) and R.Hues who managed an off the line clearance with a baseball style whack. The second half was a bit of a grind in truth with N.Wilts being the dominant side and scoring once; it was a strong testament to the team who knuckled down and prevented more goals to give us the win- the final whistle was a relief!
Sorry about the dad joke; it's our only win since Christmas.
