Beaten not out
Match Report: Beaten but not out. (Marlborough B 1-9 West Wilts A)
Marlborough B can be proud of themselves with this great performance. Playing the top team in the division (West Wilts A) was always going to be a tough. Marlborough were under pressure early on with two fantastic reverse stick goals . It was clear that the goalie (Tom Collins) was going to have a busy day. Nick Gosling and Alex Ford led the Marlborough defence and repelled wave after wave of attacks from the away team. Preventing a potential rout, and we finished the first half 0-4 behind.
Marlborough came out fighting in the second half and pushed Wilts back . Ten minutes of sustained pressure resulted in a fantastic opportunity for Andy Shaw to score. A well worked short corner routine found Andy unmarked with time to spare at the top of the D. Some how his gilt edge opportunity went wide! The sustained pressure from Marlborough was rewarded soon after with a goal from Chris Newton. A typical close range effort.
The rest of the game was a text book display of attacking play from West Wilts. Lewis Davies, Tom Devenish and Gabe Dellar battled well to keep the score in single figures. Marlborough are starting to play well as a team. They should be proud of their performance; against a strong opposition. Next game is Marlborough A in the new year.
