Fighting all the way

Marlborough went into this game with energy and determination. Despite an early goal from Newent, we managed to remain positive, with some solid defending by Becky, Katie and Phoebe. Marlborough worked up some strong attacks and we had a few quick breaks from Alex up in the forward line. Unfortunately Newent fought hard and came back with a great shot into the top corner. We were not disheartened, and continued to work the ball round the back, with some excellent movement from Rachel, Anna and Catherine in midfield. Newent managed to hold us out and eventually broke through our press, ending the half at 3-0.

Marlborough came back with renewed confidence in the 2nd half, fighting for loose balls and transferring across the back resulting in some constructive attacking play. However Newent's attacks were still persistent and after a few dangerous breaks through our defence, we were down another two goals, despite some excellent saves from Moxy. Marlborough took every opportunity to attack, with some great runs by Phoebe, giving the forwards a good boost but failed to get much of the ball in our attacking D. Even in the final minutes Marlborough was still fighting for the ball, winning a short corner but were unable to convert. short corner could grab the game ended a disappointing score of 5-0 to Newent.
