Marlborough 0 - Swindon 6

With a 7-0 defeat at the away fixture looming over us, this was always going to be a tough fixture, and in a week plagued by injury and illness it was going to be even harder. Set defensively Marlborough started solidly and effectively kept the Swindon attacks at bay for the opening twenty minutes. Marlborough was marking well and, closing down the Swindon attacks with some very effective tackling from Sian Parks and Phoebe Clarke in the centre back roles and some excellent saves from Amy Pullen in goal, standing in for the injured Vicky Moxham. Swindon were denied an early goal and Marlborough looks strong, even mounting a couple of promising attacks, down the right by Anna Scott and middle by Alex Crosby-Jones, both were unable to convert the chances. Swindon remained composed and their patience paid off, scoring 3 times in quick succession in the remainder of the half. Marlborough did win themselves a couple of short corners but a straight strike was saved by the opposition goalie and a set move broke down meaning neither was converted.

At 3 nil down there was all to play for at the start of the second half, however Marlborough looked the tireder of the two teams and it wasn't long before Swindon got the upper hand again. The battle was fierce in the field but Marlborough were worn down by a very on point Swindon performance and were unable to make their mark on the scoreboard, with very little play in their attacking D through the second half. The game ended 6-0 to Swindon.

Marlborough News online Man of the Match was Penny Bowen for her relentless hard work in mid-field.
