Marlborough 3 - Bretforton 1

Knowing that a win was needed to stay in the battle to remain in Prem 2A, Marlborough came out hard, putting Bretforton under pressure and creating some good attacks resulting in an early goal by Alex Crosby-Jones. A strike from the edge of the D. Bretforton rallied, closing Marlborough down quickly and passing the ball around well, making it difficult for Marlborough to capitalise on the early lead. This rattled Marlborough somewhat and the nerves began to show, unable to win the 50:50 balls it wasn't long before Bretforton replied with an equaliser. Initially saved by Vicky Moxham, Bretfroton just managed to scrabble a ball over the line and even the score. Though Marlborough won two short corners, they were unable to convert from their set moves. The fight continued furiously in midfield, with Bretforton seemingly having the upper hand on the attack, but the Marlborough back line kept them out solidly and the half ended one a piece.

After a half time talk from coach Matt Way, Marlborough started the send half with renewed vigour, closing players down quickly and fighting harder for every ball. A further short corner, and a strike from Alex Crosby-Jones was unable to find the back of the net but Marlborough kept the Bretforton defence under pressure, with some great attacking play by Lottie Colquhoun, Lucy Anderson and Martha Franks. Lucy Anderson was able to create an opportunity in the D and although the first strike missed, she buried the deflection. Following this Marlborough upped their game even more and it was Bretforton who started to make the mistakes. Lottie Colquhoun was able to capitalise and slipped a shot over the goalie, ending the scoreline 3 - 1 to Marlborough. Marlborough Ladies 1s lives to fight in the relegation decider this Saturday versus Swanage, needing to secure a win or a draw to stay up.

The Marlborough News Online Man of the Match was Lottie Colquhoun for her fantastic efforts up front.
