Marlborough ladies 1st team started their season with a disappointing loss against Bristol side, Jaspers.
With Marlborough having new players and changes in formation, the first match of season was always going to be tough. Marlborough started slowly and went 4.0 down within the first half to a well drilled Jaspers side. A Marlborough goal brought some hope just before half time when Catherine Manley lifted the ball over the keeper.
The Half time team talk led by new coach Pete Crook made a positive impact and Marlborough came out fighting. Captain Penny Bowen drove the ball into the D and slipped it past the keeper at the tightest of angles. With the score line 4:2 and possession on their side, Marlborough looked back in the game.
Jaspers upped their attack and won a number of short corners but Marlborough's defensive line held fast. As the game went on Marlborough tired and Jaspers capitalised with a further 2 goals on the break.
The game ended 6:2 but with the rest of season ahead Marlborough have plenty of time to find their 'mojo'!
Marlborough news online Player of the match went to Bethany Palfrey, a junior player making her debut for the 1st team for her tireless work in defence.
