Like most of Marlborough's away games this season it was a damp, grey day and a very long drive. Never the less, a rousing team talk by Anna Scott soon got the team energised and determined to make something of the day.
Marlborough's attacking play started straight from the off with a number of short corners and action in the D. It wasn't long before Marlborough broke the ice with a successful short corner, as Bella Busby got a crucial deflection at full stretch on the post. Marlborough's midfield dominated possession and worked the ball up the pitch, passing to Anna Stover. Stover timed her pass perfectly to Busby waiting on the far post. A hard and fast sweep pass the keeper to give Marlborough's second goal.
Swanage had some attacking play but never looked dangerous. Confident saves from skipper Vicky Moxham and a well organised back line denied the home team any chance of scoring.
The majority of play remained in Marlborough's attacking third and more short corners followed. A further 2 goals were added to the Marlborough tally by Anna Scott. Her clean strikes at the top of the D finding a way through the sticks to hit the back board.
Marlborough's 5th goal came courtesy of Sophie Fynn, again a short corner, not quite going to plan but Fynn keeping her cool and finding a gap to slot the ball over the line.
5 nil at half time and Marlborough set their sights on double figures.
Marlborough continued to gain in confidence. Defenders, Beth Palfrey and Anna Scott moving the ball across the back with confidence and Annabel Ashley and Amy Davidson proving width and long balls up the lines.
Another attack on the Swanage D from Sophie Fynn was saved by the keeper, but midfielder Alice Thompson was waiting to add to the score sheet and pounced on the loose ball to calmly tuck it in the goal.
Swanage began to crumble under the pressure, a number of stick tackles resulted in a sin bin but Marlborough continued to play with style.
Busby picked up her 3rd goal, again a short corner, Scotty picking out Busby waiting on the post. Her 4th quickly followed when a clearance from Marlborough defence found Thompson who ran with ball up the pitch. Swanage players were closing in but a perfectly timed and weighted pass allowed Busby to make 4 goals all too easy.
Marlborough's last goal came from open play. Midfielder Jess Davies moved the ball around the D to create some space and fired a shot in at pace. A deflection lifted the ball in the air and landed neatly for waiting forward Catherine Manley to trap and tap it home to finish the game.
Marlborough News Online Player of the match was awarded to Bella Busby for her 4 goals, all of which were skilfully managed.
