Saturday saw us play Bath Buccs away at the University of Bath. After the disappoinment of losing in the final few minutes in the snow last weekend Marlborough meant business. The game earlier in the season had been a close run thing so Marlborough, fielding a strong side, wanted to carry on where they had left off. There was a confusion over the push back time, meaning the match commenced 15mins early, or 15 mins late, depending what side you were on!!

Anna Scott gave a rousing team talk, so we took to the pitch full of confidence after last week's disappointment. However our feeling of invincibility was deflated somewhat when Bath Buccs scored with the first couple of minutes from a goal mouth scramble. The team rallied and pulled together, with Tess Christmas equalizing with a seemingly impossible first time strike. Our defence stood firm, with Emily Carter-Davies & Anna Scott, an impenetrable wall and Annabelle Ashleyusing her speed to snuff out any danger. The defence worked well as a unit with Beth Palfry ably turning defence in to attack. Sophie Fynn in turn provided the springboard to move up the pitch and attack the Bath Buccs goal.

Unfortunately for Marlborough, Bath Buccs scored a second goal, which seemed to motivate the team. Vicky Moxham was her usual brilliant self seemingly impossible to beat, spreading confidence through the team and providing a platform to go in search for the equaliser. Unfairly Anna Scott then received a green card Marlborough consolidated and battened down the hatches.

Rachel Cox and Jess David performed heroically in the middle with Alice Thompson playing out of position up front coming close many times and was desperately unlucky not to get on the score sheet. Heather Barnes worked hard to find the back of the net and lay the ball on for others to try and score.

The equaliser then finally came through a skilful flick from Sophie Fynn from great build up play through the whole team . Both teams worked hard to try and get the winner before the final whistle went.

The match finished at an incredible 2-2, and we came away from Somerset with our heads held high ready for our trip to Bournemouth the following day.....

Marlborough News ONline man of the match went to Sophie Fynn who was majestic in centre midfield and must have run a marathon distance during the game.
