Marlborough took to the road for 1 of many of their Dorset away games this season.
A minute silence observed, the whistle blew and the heavens opened. The first half dogged by torrential rain proved to be a bad start for Marlborough. Gillingham dominated the midfield and gave Jess Davis, Alice Thompson and Catherine Manley no time on the ball to effectively distribute to our forwards Grace Berry, Bella Busby, Milly Dawson and Tess Christmas. After 0-1 down, Marlborough pushed on feeling an equaliser could easily tip the balance. Half backs Beth Palfrey and Amy Davidson worked the ball up the lines but again Gillingham cut out the passes and away team could not connect with the forward line. Before the end of the first half, Gillingham had gone 3 goals ahead, Anna Scott and Emily Carter-Davies put in tackle after tackle in defence but Gillingham's forwards were ensuring plenty of pressure.
The second half proved better, Marlborough had some attacking opportunities and started to link the ball through the defence, midfield and forwards and only conceded 1 goal. Issy Davies made many confident saves to prevent a more negative goal difference but Marlborough’s fate was already sealed.
Player of the match was awarded to Anna Scott. Without her precision tackles, distribution and organisation on the back line the scoring could have much worse.
