Okay, so the scoreline might not be our best, but the match was a good one with plenty of promise for the rest of the season.
A small squad of 12 set out to Corsham on a wet and windy Saturday morning (thanks to Millie who said she'd like it to rain as we set out!). The match against Corsham started well, with play switching back and forth as both teams fought for the first goal. The Marlborough defence was solid, with Sarah and Edie looking calm under pressure, and even Verity; playing far from her usual forward position making some tidy tackles. The midfield held tight, releasing the ball to the forwards who struck out for the D. Unfortunately, after about 20 minutes Corsham got the first goal after a lucky pass across the goal.
In the second half Marlborough were determined to equalise, but Corsham soon got a second goal. Tori and Holly created some great chances off quick runs and long passes up the sideline, and Marlborough won a number of short corners. A solid press kept the pressure on high up the pitch, but Corsham broke through to test our defence. Sophie put in a series of excellent tackles at the back, but they eventually won and scored off a short corner (sorry team). The final score of 4-0 was disappointing, but not reflective of the match overall and there are plenty of positives that the team will be taking forwards.
There were lots of nominations for player of the match, but it was clearly won by Amy Davidson, with Holly Clemence coming a close second on her debut match. Well done everyone!
