Even without claiming a win our result on Saturday was far from disappointing. Despite the early start, the weather was great and we set out to Chippenham with a positive attitude and a certain faith we would have a great game.
Our first half was well fought with the ball constantly moving between halves. With Sarah’s strong 16’s and Tori’s efforts along the wing, we were able to keep pressing. We got very close to scoring multiple times but the Chippenham goalie was extremely persistent in sizzling out our fiery attacks. Our defence in this half worked especially hard, making measured tackles and sending the ball wide when necessary. However, after a relentless scuffle in our D and near the end of the first half, Chippenham secured a goal.
After being regenerated by jelly babies, we retaliated in the second half with more marking and more shots on goal. Thanks to some great runs by Joanne and Zara, we put significant pressure on their defenders and earned ourselves countless short corners. Soon enough, about 60 mins in we scored a well-deserved goal after an inspired run by Tori, a series of quick, hard passes through their defence and a powerful deflection by Joanne.
The man of the match was won by Tori who was our reliable injector and centre-back rock. Runner up was Louisa who amazed us all with some outstanding saves in goal. Overall the match was very high energy with maximum effort from every player, and the end result was satisfying but wasn’t quite reflective of our performance.
