A solid win for Marlborough 2

Marlborough 2 started the game well with an early goal by Anna Perkins, and managed to maintain the upper hand during a frustrating first half. While the team had several shots on goal we were unable to find the back of the net, including one particularly comical near miss where the ball ping-ponged across the front of the goal several times, touched by every attacker in the D but eventually trickling across the back line.

The second half saw a significant improvement in the team, several good 1-2 manoeuvres and overall much better teamwork. Gabbie Painting scored a great goal after a strong run up the left wing. The team had plenty of practice at short corners and were unlucky not to get another goal, particularly one disallowed when the ball did not quite make it out of the D. Millie Morgan scored her first goal of the season, and this was quickly followed up by a cracking goal by Freya Renwick high into the top left corner.

Chippenham ensured we were kept busy across the pitch, and some great defence by Emily McMath and Karen Davis meant that Jen Moffat, who had kindly stepped in in place of a poorly Amy, wasn't put under too much pressure - although she did make a couple of great saves.

Overall a good experience for a relatively young team, and should keep us tied on points at the top of the league
