Being up against West Wilts who were two places above us in the league, the Marlborough 2s were ready for a tough match. Within the first ten minutes Karen Davis scored the first goal of the match, which only lead to more fantastic work from the team. Verity scored a penalty flick, pushing it hard into the bottom left corner of the goal giving us a 2-0 lead.
The team had brilliant play from the forwards (Tatjana, Freya, Millie and Verity), creating lots of shots on goal but also supporting defensively when needed. There was great work from the midfield (Jen, Ellie, Karen and Beth), who drove the ball up the pitch and worked well together, making all the right passes. We managed to keep the ball predominantly in our attacking half, and by the end of the first half the score was 3-0.
In the second half West Wilts had picked up their pace, but nothing we couldn't handle. With Victoria, Emily, Helen and Gabbie in our defence line, and a massive help from Chloe playing in goal (who did an awesome job) we kept the ball out of their goal. West Wilts scored from a short corner but we quickly fought back. Tatjana scored our forth goal by pushing it in while there was a panicked scramble by their keeper and defence from our aggressive attack. By the end of the match we had a 5-1 win thanks to another awesome goal from Verity.
Hopefully the team can keep up this standard when playing Wootton Bassett on the 27th, and another thank you to Will and Ed for being our water boys and supporting us from the sideline :-)
