What a result!

Wootton Bassett started the match with the first centre pass and struck out hard against a determined Marlborough 2. The team quickly fought back pushing up into the Wootton Bassett D. A great strike from Verity connected solidly with the back board, but the goal was disallowed for being struck outside the D. Wootton Bassett had some attackinh breaks but Helen and Becky were solid in defence and held them away from scoring. Marlborough maintained the upper hand and eventually won a short corner. Tori injected wide to Freya who managed to knock it to Milly who crossed it to Jen who sent it flying past the goalie. 1-0 to Marlborough! Before the end of the first half Bassett had a couple more breaks but were unable to score thanks to some excellent team defence and a few nifty saves by Karen in goal.

The second half was started well by Ellie who made a huge break, running the length of the pitch and taking a shot on goal. It was saved by the keeper, but Verity capitalised on the rebound putting us 2-0 up. Wootton Bassett struck out hard again forcing Louisa, Amy and Gabbie to work hard in midfield, and Karen's goal keeping was incredible. The team then had a great attacking streak with Freya finding the back of the net, allowing the team to breathe a little more easily in this close fought game. A fantastic run by Freya took three defenders out of the game and was unlucky not to result in a goal, but Milly was quick to get the rebound and get a final goal taking the score line to 4-0 and keeping hopes of promotion well alive. What a result!
