Marlborough 2 beat West Wilts to secure promotion.

The moments before and during the start of the match were tense as winning this match would secure promotion but similarly loosing this match could have prevented our promotion. The first few minutes were very tense and this was reflected by the number of turn overs as each side took it in turns to break. There were several shots on each goal but to no avail. A hard and precise hit from Helen meant that Jen had a chance to run at goal. Jen passed to Lottie and Lottie got the first goal of the match. Shortly after a deflection during one of West Wilts’ long corners equalised the score, making both teams more determined than ever. The first half finished with a short corner but West Wilts managed to defend it keeping the two teams equalised at 1 all.

The second half started with Marlborough’ push back. Marlborough were determined not to concede any goals and met them with hard resistance from the forward line, and kept the ball in the West Wilts defensive 23 for the first 10 minutes with numerous shots on goal. The first goal of the second half was scored by Freya with an amazing reverse hit from the top of the D. The next chance we had was a well fought break made by Ellie with a shot on goal from the top of the D to great success, as the ball was smashed passed the goalie and into the corner of the goal. However after much confusion and some debate between the umpires, the goal was disallowed as Ellie was thought to have been outside the D. After a few more shots on goal from both sides with great defending from the full backs and the halfs, and solid 16 yard hit outs from the defence another goal was scored by Freya with the help of Tori who made some great lateral runs up the right side of the pitch. The match ended with short corners being defended till the end of the match with a great stop made by Helen preventing another goal. A great score which was hard fought by both teams and a great match which secured Marlborough the promotion.
