Our match this weekend was against North Wilts in sunny Swindon – it’s not often that you put those two ‘s’ words in the same sentence, but what a change in the weather from the freezing and frosty Wotton Bassett! Players and spectators lost that blue hue and came out smiling for this match.

From our previous experience against this team, we were expecting a tough match and were not disappointed. In the opening minutes of the game North Wilts gained an early lead. However, we did not let this dishearten us, with the whole team giving a strong performance. Together we prevented many of their scoring opportunities and made headway towards their goal, but ultimately finished the game 4-0.

Helena and Heather again made some very good breaks down the right wing, showing superb stick skills and moving assertively towards the goal. Although we entered the opposition’s D several times, we were unable to find the net. North Wilts had a strong aversion to letting us anywhere near their goalie!

Our D was defended well and we were unlucky to give away several short corners. Despite this offensive penalty onslaught, the opposition only managed to get two goals passed our impressive defensive play. North Wilts had some striking forwards who had numerous attempts on goal during the match, trying hard to defeat our defiant defence; but we stayed strong and only conceded a total of 2 more well-struck goals during the game.

Man of the Match was Becky Blair, for her resilient and skilled defensive play; this was definitely a match where the whole team pulled together to play extremely well against a very strong side.
