Defeat in Devizes

Approaching the second from top of the table we always knew we had a tough game ahead. A slow and drizzly start we conceded our first goal against in the first minute. The rain stopped but the onslaught from Devizes continued until a shining moment when Verity earned and scored a cracking penalty. This gave the team a chance to regroup and set up again but despite a good fight and a good amount of play in the opposition D, by half time we were 5-1 down.

After an inspiring pep talk from Sarah we were back in the game and ready to put up a fight in the second half. Starting strong we scored 2 goals – a fierce sweep from Ciara on the left, and a slickly finished deflection from Heather at right post, fed in by a typically strong hit from Verity. Despite a tough back line defence from Player of the Match Sarah Kendal with help from trusty defending queen, Katie King, and diving goalie Edie, unfortunately in the end our three goals weren’t enough to compete with Devizes barrage of attacks and cheeky round the keeper goals. Off to pick ourselves up in the pub… Heads up and lets have ‘em next round!
