After a disappointing performance last week, Marlborough 2’s we’re keen to prove that they could still play hockey! With two players dropping out at short notice due to illness, Chloe Darlington stepped in as Goal Keeper. After a quick warm up, the attackers practiced some short corners before Louisa was called for the toss up. We lost but Chippenham decided to give us first push back and from the moment the whistle blew, Marlborough raced towards the goal. With shots on goal proving to be difficult, the attackers went for the short corner approach. We won at least eight short corners, three of which were back to back. Tory Williams was invaluable pushing out to Rachel, Verity and Anna Strover. Alas, no goals came. Chippenham won the ball and ran it down into our defence who stood strong. Sarah Kendall passed the ball straight to Rachel who dribbled up the middle, around the Chippenham players, passing through to Verity who took it into the D, saw that Katie was free and slipped the ball; Katie deflected the ball into the back of the goal. 1-0 to Marlborough.

Resetting the positions, Marlborough, again dominated the match and were once again in Chippenham’s circle. Another short corner was won and the team set up. A push out to Verity lead to a cracking straight strike right into the left corner of the goal. 2-0 to Marlborough. The whistle was blown and half time was called.

Back on the pitch for the second half, Marlborough was looking for another goal. We kept the pressure on Chippenham, only allowing them into our defensive half a few times. Anna and Verity had a few strikes when Marlborough won the ball and passed back down the line. No goals were scored however and the final whistle was blown. All in all, a much better performance than last week.
