Well despite the lovely (not) British weather we had on Saturday, the lady second’s braved the hockey pitch to play Frome. Frome won first toss, but Marlborough were straight in, attacking hard and winning possession a lot. We managed to get a short corner but their defenders were able to clear the ball and get it up pitch. Frome scored the first goal which was bad luck as Marlborough defended well with Edie clearing several times before they were successful. Luckily this spurred us on and Marlborough, using the wings, got the ball up pitch and with some beautiful skill from Meg scored and made us even. However, it wasn’t long until Frome were back in our half and fighting hard. Sarah and Darcy did amazingly well to keep it away from our D but unfortunately Frome were able to sneakily tap a goal in behind Edie bringing the score to 2-1 at half time.

We had a good half-time team talk from Lou, which made us goal hungry to go into the second half. Rachel played strongly up the middle and it wasn’t long before Meg had the ball and scored another goal. There were some lovely intersections from Katie, Zara and Holly that allowed us to take the ball back up into Frome’s half. Although it wasn’t seen, Verity definitely scored a goal (but we’re not holding grudges!) Unfortunately, Frome then scored a goal, putting them in the lead 3-2. With only a few minuets on the clock, we were desperate to get those goals back. Marlborough worked hard in the D and it paid off as we managed to get a couple of short corners. Rachel scored from a short, which was hit up into a flick by one of Frome’s players. But Frome struck back for a final goal to win the game 4-3.

Marlborough played amazingly and the score does not the hard work the girls put in. We defended well, took balls quickly and made a lot of opportunity.
