The ladies 2 headed out with heads held high for another tough match against a feisty North Wilts. It was our first proper home match of the season and it felt good to be back on home turf, but we knew we were in for a tough match. North Wilts started hard and kept the pressure on throughout the first half. Wave after wave, they demonstrated their well drilled skills, bouncing the ball around our defence. Marlborough stood strong, with some excellent stick skills from Sophie, Katie, Evie & Georgie. Several short corners were awarded but Evie and Georgie showed great courage running hard out at the attackers, while Emma was highly commendable in goal diving all over the D to keep the ball out of the goal. By half time the score was 3-0.
The second half started more promisingly as Marlborough re-set the pressure on North Wilts; the inners passing the ball up to the forwards and getting a few overloads in the attack. North Wilts GK was ready to respond, and we did not get any goals. North Wilts were beginning to tire, and their frustration showed as one of their players was green carded. However, they scored another two goals to settle the final score at 5-0.
Several players received votes for POTM, but it was ultimately awarded to Emma Davies who had an outstanding match in goal.
