A sunny morning, a great display the weekend before and opposition in the lower end of the table left Marlborough Ladies feeling optimistic about this weekend’s match.
Sadly, within minutes the team was on the back foot and a couple of early goals appeared to set the tone for the match. Following a fabulous save, junior goalie Yasmin Lester (on her debut appearance) fell to the floor injured and was escorted off the pitch. Captain Lou Gostling stepped in to the breech and donned the goalie kit, going on to play as good as any regular goalie; with Swindon striking every time they hit the D, Lou and fellow defenders were kept very busy.
A chance to reset at half time and some changes to positions saw a different team emerge and, whilst Swindon has serial shots on goals, a much tighter second half.
A disappointing 8-0 defeat against a team who would have looked more at home more in the top three of the table than the bottom.
