First game, rusty but triumphant

Marlborough went into this first game with a bit of trepidation. Everyone was feeling rusty, and Devizes came out strong in the first half.

However, after the first 10 minutes, Marlborough started to get their confidence and play some really nice hockey.

The first goal of the match saw Devizes coming unstuck by the new rule change which says that a goal can now be scored after the ball is touched in the circle by either an attacker or a defender. It was unlucky for them, but gave Marlborough the confidence they needed. By the end of the first half we were 3-0 up, with goals from Helen & Debs.

The second half continued in the same vein, with very little attacking from Devizes and two more goals, one from Theresa and a lovely short corner hit from Julie.

The match unfortunately came to an abrupt end with a Devizes player down following a trip over a stick. With 10 minutes to go, a player who couldn't move from the pitch and a good score, it was agreed that we would end the match.

A great score if not a great end. We hope that the Devizes player makes a good recovery. (Although as she was one of their best not too too swift ;-))
