After a long 6 month wait, Marlborough 2s were eager to get back on the pitch to playing league hockey. The team was demoted at the end of the tough 19/20 season, but the first match was never going to be easy as we faced Frome 2 who had also moved down to Whitehorse 2. Captain Lou gave a quick team chat to remind everyone of how we play hockey (!), then the team formed up on the pitch ready to roll. Frome were clearly keen to secure points early in the season and pressed hard, but defenders Sophie, Sarah and Evie held strong. Midfielders Jodie, Georgie and Marcelle linked up with forwards Rosie and Tilly to put the pressure on. Frome won a few tense short corners but failed to capitalise, before inners Lucy, Shahla and Phoebe made their break, with Phoebe securing a goal just before half time. 1-0 up!
The second half played out in a similar manner. Lottie and Eva made some great runs up front to keep the pressure on, but the Frome took their chance and scored. Not to be let down, Marlborough put the pressure back on, and Phoebe once again showed her skill to strike a great goal past the Frome goalie. Elated with our 2-1 win, we're ready to step up against North Wilts next week.
