Marlborough arrived nervous for their first game in the Wessex Division 1 League to face Chippenham. Determined to show that we belonged in this higher league, the team started confidently, putting pressure on the Chippenham defence from the whistle. After a few chances Helen drove strongly towards the goal and scored the first goal of our season. As we approached half time the rain started and Chippenham pushed back with a goal of their own.
After a quick break and chat the team stepped back onto the pitch with the sunshine and a positive attitude to the game. With some excellent movement down the right from Ness and new-comer Vikki the pressure was really on the Chippenham defence. A brilliant cross from Ness resulted in our second goal courtesy of Sarah and there could have been a few more to follow given more time.
All in all it was a good first match for the 2nds, there was some great play at times and we are looking forward to stepping up to meet Bath Buccs next week. Congratulations to Ness who was voted Player of the Match.
