Marlborough Girls U10s took 2 teams to the Cheltenham for their first games of the season. Between them they played 9 games, winning 4, drawing 2 and losing 3. There was some fantastic hockey, determined defending and huge effort seen from all the girls.
The Unicorns went through the first 4 games without letting a goal in, which was as much to do with Jess Worrow's brilliant goalkeeping as the collective determination of the other 6 players to stop the opposition getting clear shots in. The won two of these first 4 games with goals from Flora Low, Matilda Makin and Freya Henry. In the last game they finally conceded a goal with seconds remaining, having dominated the game until that point with lots of great play, but not being able to score the goals they deserved.
The other team, Pegasus went for the style play of scoring more than the oppposition, which worked half the time! They scored a brilliant 8 goals over the 4 games, in one game putting 4 past Cheltenham, including a hattrick by Florence Miller. They all did fantastically, often playing out of their favourite position to have new experiences! Francesca did a great job in goal for the 3 games she played before Kate Hawthorn bravely gave goalkeeping a try.
Special mention should be given to Kate Hawthorn and Mollie Watts who played in their first tournament having only been playing for 3 weeks.
The girls had a great time and the improvement they made of the course of the day bodes well for our return in a few weeks time.
