Marlborough U10 Girls win the Wiltshire County Cup

So a cup of tea and a card in bed on mother's day, but sorrowfully no lie-in as it was an early start at Marlborough College for the final hockey tournament of the 2017/18 season, the County Cup. Sadly Will was unable to be there as he was stuck up a beautiful snow covered mountain, but he was genuinely upset not to be there! Luckily, Liz Watts agreed to step in and take the Marlborough B's. Without her help, we would have struggled to enter another team, so a huge thank you and we are extremely grateful!

Overall all the girls played very well and have all shown individual signs of improvement.

The A's had a successful campaign and won all their matches, resulting in them going through to the Regionals. They had never played together as a team and really found their feet as the games progressed. They were lucky to have Jess, a formidable GK who made some great saves and didn't concede a single goal. Freya was excellent in defence and was helped by Carys, Mathilda, Eleanor and Florence in mid-field. Mia, Isla, Cecily and Ella played their roles extremely well in setting up goals and putting the opposition under a lot of pressure.

Marlborough B's all played fantastically well and worked together brilliantly as a team. They all stayed in their positions really well and fought back well during the corners. The results did not reflect their efforts, and they did fantastically considering they were playing against all the other team's As. Special mention to Kate who went from brilliant work as goalie to goal scoring!

The results of the A's:

Marlborough A v Marlborough B 6-0

First game, the local derby, but thankfully without any crowd control issues, as initially feared. It was actually a good game for both teams to settle into and Florence kicked off the scoring and went on to score 4 out of 6 with Eleanor adding another 2 to the sheet!
The final score was not a true reflection of the game. The B's played really well, making more use of the pitch than the A's, but sadly were unable to get the ball in the net. Kate Hawthorn volunteered to play in goal for the B's and made some great saves in her first attempt in this position.
