U16 Girls V Bristol Firebrands

It was a bleak, drizzly, autumnal day. We all adventured to Failand, Bristol; arriving in plenty of time. We got a warm and friendly welcome from the opposition. We had a quick warm up and then got straight into match play. Marlborough showed their resilience, holding off the reds, with abundant strength and beautiful teamwork. The defence battled off attackers, passing out wide to the two wings Micha and Georgie, who fought on to get the ball up the pitch. There where some admirable balls passed to Jess, who carried the ball down the middle. Holly, Evie and Daisy held the defensive line with great durability. Issy showed amazing courage and performed some good kicks out wide. At half time it was 0-0.
Our supporters and coaches were very supportive and motivational. We were told to pass the ball harder. After gaining energy on jelly babies, we came out and played exceptionally! There was some great fighting from Ella, Teddy and Alice, who battled to win us a goal. Most of the second half was played by us attacking and in there half of the pitch. They scored a goal with their first strike. Immy, Ellie and Zara played invincibly, running all over the place and getting stuck in. We carried on attacking, with the ball rarely passing over the half way line. They got a short corner in the last little bit of the game and ended up scoring. At the end of the game it is fair to say, the score did not represent our play and we should have come away with at least one goal. Everyone played with good determination and no one gave up at anytime.
Zara got their player of the match and Georgie got our player of the match.
Massive thanks to the Parents who came to support and stand in the horrible weather, cheering us on. A huge thank you to Sarah, who coached us and kept us rallied all the way through the game. Thank you to Rachel who came and refereed the game in the melancholy weather.
