Funny old game

Marlborough Vs Chippenham Marlborough lose 4-3
After two wins for both sides to start the season an early top of the table clash beckoned between Marlborough and Chippenham. Would Marlborough be able to break their losing streak against their league rivals?
Chippenham started the game the brighter of the two sides and soon had Marlborough pegged back in their own half and struggling to clear their lines. The visitors deservedly opened the scoring with a quick move which caught Marlborough unawares. Chippenham soon doubled their lead after a slick short corner routine which again left Marlborough floundering.
In desperate need of a team wide rally before half time Marlborough dug their heels in and spen the majority of the remainder of the half in the Chippenham last third with several near misses and close calls of their own. 2-0 at half time and it looked like game on.
The second half began and almost instantly Marlborough fell behind further to 3-0 after a series of strange plays allowed Chippenham to slot home from close range. In their desperation to make a game of it Marlborough threw themselves forward and Chippenham once again pounced to make the score 4-0, surely the game was completely beyond the home side?
The last 20 minutes of the game were a credit to Marlborough and their fighting spirit as they well and truly fought their way back in to the game by tireless application and energy. Marlborough scored their first of the game when Anil Sud deflected Will Radnege’s through ball past the Chippenham keeper and soon found the deficit cut further when debutant striker Isaac Hocking calmly flicked home past the onrushing keeper.
With the game now well and truly on Chippenham created chances of their won and were unlucky not to add further to their own tally mainly down to the efforts of Marlborough goalkeeper Brian Marnane.
With 5 minutes remaining Marlborough pulled ever closer when skipper Rich Holman scored from a short corner…could the unthinkable happen? Could Marlborough salvage a point?
Unfortunately it was not to be for the home side which left them all ruing only truly getting in to the game when 4-0 down. A highly entertaining match to watch and participate in for all.
The Marlborough News Online Man of the Match was Brian Marnane for a string of saves to keep Marlborough’s hopes alive and kicking.
