With the last game before Christmas, Marlborough needed to finish on a high and keep the pressure on the top two. Somerset Gryphons were up next. On paper, Marlborough should have won this game comfortably, but as it turned out, it was far from comfortable. Marlborough started brightly, but couldn't seize control. They did, however, go ahead through Keir Headly who scored a trademark drag flick from a short corner. From there, Marlborough really should have dominated, but to Gryphons' credit they held firm until half time. The half time chat was aimed at focusing on more intensity and for the first 15 minutes of the second half Marlborough's intensity was high. Despite this, Marlborough just couldn't put the ball in the net, until Will Hughes turned his defender and slotted away a sweet reserve stick strike into the corner of the goal. 2-0. Game over? Not really... Marlborough became sloppy, giving the ball away and dropping all standards and with 5 minutes to go Gryphons scored to make the last few minutes interesting. Marlborough held on..... just!!! They go into the Christmas break in third place just off the promotion spot. A special mention to Keir Headly who now goes off travelling. Marlborough News On-line man of the match was Will Hughes
