A frustrating draw at Yate

A "wise" man once said, "nothing good ever comes out of Yate..."

I actually disagree as they have some very nice facilities and undoubtedly the finest match teas in the league. I think that the wise man was referring purely to hockey results when he made that statement.

Despite Marlborough Mop, logistics were seamless and the full squad arrived in good time for a warm up on the athletic track. A strong team has been assembled and as the opening drills started to fire it felt like we were going to start well.

The initial exchanges were close with Yate employing a howitzer of an aerial from their centre back to clear their lines and pose questions of the Marlborough defence. The defence stood strong and after a flurry of activity in the Yate D we were awarded a flick. Several passes were put together and the ball made it's way from back to front with Chris in the hot seat and about to strike when he was bundled to the floor by the Yate keeper. Our usual flick taker (Flicks: 2, Goals:1 Conversion: 50%) was unavailable and so up stepped Chris (Flicks: 1, Goals:1 Conversion:100%) who sent the ball tops left to give Marlborough the advantage. #statsdontlie

Half time arrived with Marlborough retaining their slender lead and Andy gave us a rousing team talk.

Generally though the 2nd half continued much as the first half had left off with massive Yate aerials and large amounts of pressure from Marlborough on the Yate goal. It's hard to say how many shots we had but I'm guessing it could have been 20?

Eventually the inevitable happened, Yate secured a short corner, the bigger flicker stepped up and scored at his second attempt 1-1. Despite this setback we were not concerned as with all that pressure a goal would surely come... well abou that..... Lots more pressure, lots of shots but it ended 1-1 - a disappointing result but the 100 hot dogs between 12 almost made up for it.
