Marlborough A (15 – 0) v West Wilts B.

On a bright sunny afternoon, Marlborough kept up their recent form (I am not talking about the short warm up and scoring loads of goals!), but the swift, fast, wide interchanging play, which ultimately lead to 15 goals shared between 6 different goal scorers and 3 with hat-tricks.

The brief story of the game is that there were 7 goals in the first half and 8 in the second half. This report would be too long to focus on the build up play for each of the goals, so I will keep to the important facts of the day. The goal scorers were:

Justin Metcalfe – 5, Tristan Norman – 3, Adam Staines – 3, Dan Crossman – 2, Mark Ramage – 1, Will Hodge – 1 .

As always, the goals don’t tell the full story, and the fun and games started long before the game, but as we got closer to the start, there was no sign of our Captain Ed Watson. We had a bare 11 squad and Andy Davidson took control and quickly re-arranged the strong team. Ed finally arrived moments before push back, and as we expected he was busying himself in the background like a true leader – more of which later! Aside from some amazing goals, the other pleasing factor about the game was the clean sheet with a back four of Mark Salvidge, Rob Hues, Keith Radnedge and new makeshift left-back Andy Davidson. This ageing combination at the back gave our midfield the opportunity to surge forward with greater regularity – specifically it allowed Ed Watson to camp in the opposition D.

The rest of this report is dedicated to the individual who ..........had the most shots of the day.....was the most desperate to score.......had the most shots off target.......demonstrated his full array of skills......failed to score ....but cooked the best homemade post-match tea (sausage, egg and chips!).

Finally – we all would like to give a special mention to Charlotte and Ed who did all the running around before and after the game to ensure that we had fantastic “post match teas”. Selfless commitment which was hugely appreciated by all.

Man of the Match – Cancelled for one week only and replaced by Man of the Day

Man of the Day - Ed Watson. Although his cooking was better than his striking today !

Moment(s) of the Match – Every one of Ed’s attempted shots on goal - especially the increasing desperation to nail a reverse stick strike (at least 27 attempts!). The side board and back fence took a real hammering!
