Another solid win

Marlborough had the push back to start the game and immediately started playing strongly with a good amount of possession and accurate passing. Before long, a short corner was awarded to Marlborough – the injection from Alex Ford was stopped by Phil Gill and Mark Banham fired a strong flick just wide of the left-hand post. Within five minutes, the team were awarded another short corner, this time Mark Banham’s flick went just inside the post making it 1-0 to Marlborough. The following period of play saw the Marlborough defence challenged a few times with Luc Renwick covering well in goal. An attack up the pitch by Marlborough saw Harry Strover get the ball inside the opposition D and coolly flick it over the North Wilts goalkeeper to double Marlborough’s lead.
After half time, Marlborough were again on the attack with good balls being played out of the left back position by Daniel Dix and some great first touches and dribbling skills from Alfie Marley at left wing. One of these attacks made it to Gabriel Dellar at the top of the D who brought the ball onto his strong side, tracked across the D and slotted the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the North Wilts goal making it 3-0 to Marlborough. With North Wilts now positioning two players high up in attack, the Marlborough defence was stretched and a quick break saw right back Hugo Wright facing two attackers and he was just unable to stop the pass into the Marlborough D which found a North Wilts player waiting on the back post who knocked it in for a well-deserved goal.
Determined to maintain their lead, Marlborough went straight on the attack with Chris Newton’s strong play in the North Wilts D leading to Gabriel Dellar knocking in his second goal from 1 yard out. Marlborough then managed to defend well against a few all-out attacks from North Wilts with midfielders Phil Gill and Alex Ford, together with central defender Darren Crawford, forming an impenetrable line.
Final score was 4-1 to Marlborough with man of the match going to left back Daniel Dix for his sterling efforts in neutralising the opposition attacks down the right wing.
