2s vs Bath Buccs G

Another cold damp Saturday saw an experienced 3rd team appear onto the college pitch. Eager and keen to start the game, there was even a bit of short corner practice. Especially needed following the low conversion rate of shorties to goals.

It was a strong start from Marlborough with some good attacking play and surprising width. Marlborough kept good possession and were creating chances. Christopher Newton providing an outlet up front as usual. Bath Buccs however looked dangerous on the break with some very quick pace.

The Bath Buccs keeper was proving a solid barrier however a good piece of passing saw the ever dangerous Phil Gill on top of the D take a strike to beat a defender and the goalie to take the lead.

Bath Buccs continued to attack looking to level the score but the ever reliable Angus Harley and James Lane continued to make excellent defensive tackles.

The second half saw Marlborough make further chances, once again however failing to convert these opportunities to close out the game. A yellow card for Phil Gill for over enthusiastic running allowed Buccs back into the game.

After a run into the D from Alex Ford ended with another Short corner, Andy Shaw stepped up to take a fantastic strike into the bottom left hand corner of the goal. Marlborough moved to the uncharted territory of 2-0!!

Marlborough, buoyant from their efforts continued to push high however Bath Buccs were unable to break through and Marlborough with great use of width were able to close out the game.

Excellent play from all on which was one of Marlboroughs better games. Man of the match goes to the ever resilient skipper, Andy Shaw for at last scoring a straight strike from a short corner. Ironically Andy not taking part in the pre match short corner practice.

Well done, Marlborough 3s edging closer to promotion.
