A full strength Marlborough B were looking to make amends for a disappointing loss at home last week, again the weather made it difficult.
Chippenham started strongly and piled on the pressure from the start. Marlborough’s defence held strong and struck on the break with Luke Cranstone scoring.
Chippenham continued to press high up the field and midway through the first half got their reward with a well worked equaliser. Despite the pressure Marlborough held strong and managed to strike again before the break with Chris Newton. A short corner to the home team was the last action of the half and was cleared easily by a strong back line.
After half time Marlborough switched to four in the midfield to try and break down the home teams high press and they took advantage as the game opened up. A shot on the reverse from Tom Devenish was flicked home by Wayne Cranstone. The two goal cushion allowed Marlborough to show their class and several attacking phases paid off with a short corner at the end of the game. Another goal by Chris Newton made it 4-1 to Marlborough.
A well deserved 3 points in tough conditions. Man of the Match Toby Horton for an assured display despite constant pressure from Chippenham’s left wing.
