11 Marlborough B players gathered in the pouring rain for this fixture against Shepton Mallett. The game started off slowly, probably due to neither team having the motivation to have warmed up properly in the torrential conditions. Marlborough found their first goal after about 20 minutes when, after the ball was played up the pitch, Dave Sanderson smashed it into the goal. This was closely followed by a second goal, this time from David Patterson. Gabriel Dellar added another before half time, giving the team a solid lead. Half time was a competition to squeeze into the dug out and get a few minutes out of the rain, together with a few dismal sentences from the Captain amounting to 'more of the same please'. The second half saw Marlborough continue to dominate with two goals coming from Steven Bishop, one more for David Patterson, and even Wayne Cranstone putting one in despite having given the impression throughout the game that he was going to miss every opportunity he had. The final result was a well deserved 7-0 win. Special mention to Louisa Gosling and Darren Crawford for stepping in to umpire, meaning that we could field eleven players.
