A good win away

12 players made the long trek to Warminster including 2 juniors players Tom Patterson & Will Bishop. The game started off very even in the 1st half with both teams having good chances on goal, but Marlborough broke the deadlock from an excellent short corner after a great shot from Wayne Cranstone was deflected through the keeper's legs by Barney Pickford. The 1st half then ended 0-1 to Marlborough. At half time a change of tactic was issued by the captain to catch them on the counter-attack in the second half, aided by Will Bishop coming on up front to provide some pace. Warminster started the second half very well, pressing high and limiting Marlborough’s opportunity to get the ball out of there half. Despite this, the keeper Herbert Pickford never had to make a save during this period and eventually we were able to catch them on the counter-attack where Will Bishop calmly put the ball in the back of the net after a 1 on 1 with the keeper (0-2). Warminster were a bit deflated and eventually their constant attack faded and more opportunities came for Marlborough. Marlborough kept pushing for a goal and 2 more for Barney Pickford came on the counter-attack assisted by Will Bishop (0-4). The final goal came from another excellent short corner where Wayne Cranstone scored from an excellent strike that was directed straight through the keeper's legs (0-5). A good game with a clean sheet for keeper Herbert Pickford ended 0-5 to Malborough.
