For the second time in a week, Marlborough B braved the weather in the name of their club, this time a top of the table clash with Chippenham C at home.
In the previous fixture the home team were victorious despite Storm Ciara making 16s impossible to take without the ball rolling away. This time out a combination of Storm Dennis and Chippenham proved too strong, blowing (mind that pun) Marlborough away in the second half.
The cancellation of the 2nd teams weekend away in Minehead freed a couple of faithful 3rd team players to return and make up a strong team. Despite the starting line up being littered with experience and talent Marlborough went a goal down early on, having too many players available causing complacency.
An immediate reaction by the home team lead to several periods of possession and a couple of squandered chances. It wasn’t long until the pressure paid off during a swift counter attack. Harry Strover calmly scoring from Wayne Cranstone’s strong pass into the area. The score remained one each at the interval.
Chippenham began the second half strongly, Marlborough held strong for long as possible with the weather worsening. Unfortunately the away teams work rate paid off as they pushed on and scored twice despite several good saves from Ben Marren. A well earned 3 points to Chippenham in their quest to chase down Yate to second place in the league.
