Twelve Marlborough players travelled to Corsham for the first game of the season. We were a mix of juniors and (very) seasoned adults. Corsham pressed hard from the start but Marlborough responded well with action at both ends of the pitch. A nice through pass from David Patterson found Wayne Cranstone on the edge of the opposition circle and he dribbled it in and fired it in to the net. 1-0 to Marlborough at half time. Not long into the second half, Corsham scored an equaliser closely followed by another to take the lead. As Marlborough rallied, a misjudged lifted hit from a Corsham player caught Mark Banham in the ribs, knocking him to the ground. After a couple of minutes on the ground, he bravely carried on for 10 minutes before having to leave the pitch to seek medical attention. The Marlborough team struggled to rearrange their formation in the midfield and Corsham took advantage of this to squeeze in another goal. The match ended 3-1. Harry Harvard Taylor performed outstandingly in goal for Marlborough making many fine saves in his first men’s game. Other league debutantes were Harry Phillips and Ted Pearson, both playing well. Seasoned juniors Josh Franklin, Tom Patterson and Ollie Markam put in great performances.
