Following 2 weeks of loosing, we were determined to put the negativity behind us and start as we started the season - an excited team, ready to win and take back control! And that we did…
As the season seems to dictate, the heavens opened just as the first pushback was taken and lasted for the 1st 10mins. However, being absolutely soaked, didn’t seem to stop Rachel Cox from deflecting a perfect pass from Emily Carter-Davies into the goal within those 1st 10mins. It was text book and showed our opposition exactly what we planned to do throughout this game….score lots of goals!
It was a fairly one sided game, however that didn’t mean Swanage & Wareham weren’t in it. They had their fair share of good play and attacks on goal. Emily Carter-Davies, Anna Scott and Beth Palfrey displayed their usual flare in defence, not letting any attempts on goal get through. Issy Davies kicked some potential plays straight out of the D to ensure that we would keep a clean sheet. Whilst we had to keep an eye on their central players, we had Annabel Ashley, Amy Davidson and Kitty Cleaver to ensure this wouldn’t be a problem.
It wasn’t long until Jess Davis stormed the D with a cracking straight strike on goal, giving Marlborough that extra edge. And opening the floodgates…from there it was a goal from Bella Busby, followed by another from Catherine Manley, then one from Milly Dawson and another one from Catherine Manley. And then with 5 mins left of the game, Catherine Manley stole another goal to give her the hat trick she deserved!
In total, it was 7-0. A clean sheet for clearly the best team on the pitch that day. Marlborough Ladies succeed in their target to have pumped up their goal difference and played a team, displaying their winning streak! Player of the match was Catherine Manley who scored 3 excellent goals.
